The Mobile World

I have been very impressed on the reaction of the iPhone since it has come to this little blue speck in the universe.  The gift of true “mobileness”. The real thing is that the general public loves simple things (the device to be smarter and user to be dumber operation). This is what was given to us in the smart phone market. Now it is being handed to us in the form of tablets, only after we were giving the netbook to get use to small computing devices. I am exciting at this MWC11 because you will see a huge release of mobile devices that will rock your world and make it hard to decide what will be best to get.

It is good seeing Palm’s webOS come to the market under HP. I was real sad in thinking we were going to lose such a great OS as webOS is. I wished RIM bought it instead of HP to change the whole Blackberry world but it looks like we might just lose RIM if they do not get their act together. More mobile type OS’s released is a good for everyone. So maybe we will still see RIM become a new player

I wish Windows did not change the phone OS to Win Phone from Win Mobile. They could of move their Mobile OS to the tablet instead of wasting everyone’s time by shoving a large OS on a tablet (just to prove the point of what they been trying to do 20 years). WAKE UP MS its a mobile world now! Think of what you could do with “WIN mobile” Zune/Tablet/Phone/Car. Do what you have always done … Follow the Apple. 😉

Now Apple. I have to put a disclaimer here. Even though I am happy Apple boast the mobile world I do like Apple as much as I did. Hate comes to mine when I think of Apple, similar to how Adam felt about it in the Garden of Eve (the idea of sin was better then the actual doing). They seem to think the future is a lock down platform where you give them you life to get the best devices. Beyond the fact that Apple wants to play the “Hitler” of the mobile world, they have improved the concept of mobile operations the best ….. until today.

Enter the sweet freedom of Android. Now if you know me you know that I am an Android supporter all the way. After seeing the new version for tablets (Honeycomb), I am even more excited at what a mobile device can do! I believe this is the year of Android takeover, we have seen numbers already proving this and nobody is negative above how great Android 3.0 is. Now comes the sad part .. fragmentation. With Phone Carriers decided when updates happen and when they don’t you have the awful fragmentation of Android where so many fans are being left behind on the goodies. The best desserts are left for newer devices which is beginning to sound like a “fruit” decision.

What about MeeGo? The “open source, Linux project which brings together the Moblin project, headed up by Intel, and Maemo, by Nokia, into a single open source activity.” Well, since it looks like Nokia is falling apart and going with WP7, this will become what Linux has always been … the hackers, geeks, nerds OS that nobody hears about. Sad. Since I really see a lot in this OS that could compete with the rest of them. Maybe RIM will go this way! 😉

So there you have it. My view of the mobile market. Six er.. five er.. four .. um at least three really great ones and a few hopefuls. By 2012 everyone will be either owning or begging for one the OS in their little hands.

What I Add at Every PC reStart

I have been asked several times what I use on a new OS when I install it. Now I never have used a Mac but on Windows I always go in this order.

  1. Microsoft Update –I always run update to make sure the OS is secured and running smooth.
  2. Microsoft Security Essentials-Now that Microsoft offers a great free virus protector I install it next.
  3. CCleaner-Put this in and run it to clean up installation files and registry before I start adding in all what I want. Side note:always change erase settles to wipe more then once.
  4. IOBit’s Smart Defrag– Of coarse you want everything lined up so defrag now. I use Smart Defrag first.
  5. Mozilla FirefoxChrome Browser – Fast start-up, Fast loading, Fast search and soon Flash Sand Boxed.
  6. Hijack This-Always the best Spyware protector. I only add this one because you don’t need much since Windows Defender is Loaded when you update.
  7. VLC Media-Plays everything.
  8. Open Office-You need office software and you don’t want to pay or steal.. this is the best.
  9. Pidgin-Because I like to stay connected to whatever client you have and the pidgin does it all.
  10. Foxit Reader-As they say on their web site “NO BLOAT PDF Reader”
  11. Zinio Reader– I love my PC Magazine and I love it digitally.
  12. Steam-I am a huge Portal Fan.
  13. Black Viper-Not something I add but something I do. Clean up running programs.
  14. I don’t have a program for this but lastly I kill all startups but the ones I really need. I don’t like waiting forever for a PC to boot.
  15. Last step  CCleaner and Smart Defrag one more time.

  1. Secunia – Provides security advisories and information about patches, and provides software for vulnerability management. A cool software that keeps things updated!

Now I am ready for all I want to do. Hope that helps.

Google this? Yahoo that? AOL everywhere? Vista only?

Now don’t get me wrong… I like Google! I just think that there is too much gadgets being shoved down our hard drives! First I can not get an ISP without downloading a bunch of junk from Yahoo or AOL or somebody else. Now I cant get an OS under 10 gigabytes! What happened to letting me decide what I want on MY PC! First there was Konfabulator which I loved. Then Mac stole it and put it in their OS NOW Microsoft has their version on Vista, which comes no where near to what I loved about Konfabulator!

Well, I just got the new Vista OS (HP gave it to me for free) for my new HP Laptop and this thing is HUGE. Loaded to the cooling fans with gadgets galore. I have already lost 30 gigs of hard drive space before I can put any of what I want on my laptop. Forget saving pictures and movies for the “media Center” because my 80 gigs isn’t going to last long before its max. Memory is already a waste because just sitting it is using over half a gig of ram! The sad part is this … I am not allowed to remove what I will never use. Do I want Windows mail? NO but you must leave it on your machine wasting space. How bout this Media Center? NO I watch TV in a box with an antenna! How bout IE? as pretty as it is I only use it to update Windows because I love FIREFOX! What about Windows Messenger? No thanks! I use Trillion because there is so many stupid messengers out there all my friends don’t know what to choose! All I want is an OS to be simple and secure! Let me decided what I want to install to decorate it! Let me decide what I want my laptop to do. I am an intelligent human that can decide what I like and what I want without a big giant corporate identity telling me different.
